On 13 October 2007 he beat Ecuador in Quito with a free kick, a 1-0 result that ended six years without a home defeat for the hosts, and on 6 September 2008 he became the first Venezuelan to play 100 internationals. Rey played in six Copa América tournaments, including the fourth place of 2011 that stands as Venezuela's best, won five Venezuelan league titles with Caracas and the Chilean championship with Colo-Colo in 2009.
