At the 1992 Gulf Cup he finished as top scorer and was voted player of the tournament, and thirteen years later he carried Al-Khor to their first major trophy in 46 years. Mustafa scored 41 goals in 106 internationals between 1992 and 2004, won the 1998 Arab Nations Cup, reached the Barcelona Olympic quarter-finals with Qatar, led the domestic scoring charts three times, and left international football without a single red card.
