Jordan conceded three penalties in the Asian Cup final on 10 February 2024 and Afif scored all of them, a hat-trick from the spot that kept the title in Qatar. Afif won that tournament's Golden Boot with eight goals and its Best Player award, took AFC Player of the Year in both 2019 and 2023, set a tournament record of ten assists at the 2019 Asian Cup, and has six Qatar Stars League titles with Al Sadd. At the 1992 Gulf Cup he finished as top scorer and was voted player of the tournament, and thirteen years later he carried Al-Khor to their first major trophy in 46 years. Mustafa scored 41 goals in 106 internationals between 1992 and 2004, won the 1998 Arab Nations Cup, reached the Barcelona Olympic quarter-finals with Qatar, led the domestic scoring charts three times, and left international football without a single red card.
