Wearing the armband at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on 27 February 2000, he scored on the stroke of half time against Colombia, and Canada held on to lift the Gold Cup for the first and so far only time. Beyond that title came Gold Cup bronze in 2002, Canadian player of the year the same season, Wigan's Second Division championship in 2003, and 49 caps, most of them as captain between 1999 and 2004.
