Canada reached the 2000 Gold Cup knockouts on a coin toss, then Forrest pushed away a first-half penalty in the 1-0 semi-final against Trinidad and Tobago and kept a clean sheet three days later as Colombia were beaten 2-0 in the Los Angeles Coliseum final. He was named the tournament's most valuable player of Canada's only Gold Cup, and finished with 61 caps and 263 games in goal for Ipswich Town. Deportivo La Coruña's supporters voted him their player of the season in 2007/08, the year the club climbed from relegation trouble into the UEFA Cup, after a 2005 arrival that made him the first Canadian in La Liga. He was named most valuable player of the 2007 Gold Cup, Canadian player of the year in 2008, and became Toronto's first Designated Player in 2009, retiring on 89 caps, a national record he held from 2015 to 2021.
