In the 71st minute against Morocco on 1 December 2022, Hutchinson, at 39 the oldest outfield player in Qatar, met a corner and saw his header come off the crossbar and drop just short of the line. He retired with 104 caps, a Canadian men's record, six Canadian Player of the Year awards, four Danish titles at Copenhagen, three Süper Lig titles at Beşiktaş and a KNVB Cup at PSV. Wearing the armband at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on 27 February 2000, he scored on the stroke of half time against Colombia, and Canada held on to lift the Gold Cup for the first and so far only time. Beyond that title came Gold Cup bronze in 2002, Canadian player of the year the same season, Wigan's Second Division championship in 2003, and 49 caps, most of them as captain between 1999 and 2004.
