Granada had never won at Camp Nou until the night of 29 April 2021, when Machís struck the equaliser against Barcelona and Roberto Soldado turned it into a 2-1 win. He won the Taça de Portugal with Vitória Guimarães in 2013, the Copa Venezuela with Mineros de Guayana in 2011 and the Kirin Cup with Venezuela in 2019, and has scored 11 goals in 52 internationals. Between 2008 and 2025 he answered the call 143 times, more than anyone else in Venezuelan football, and the nickname stuck: El General, the man who held the ground in front of the back four. He won Serie A and the Coppa Italia with Juventus in 2016/17, took the fans' player of the tournament award at the 2011 Copa América, and wore the armband at the Centenario in 2016 and the Copa América of 2019.
