Arriving at Dynamo Kyiv in 1999, he scored 97 league goals for them over a decade and left the Ukrainian top flight tied with Serhii Rebrov as its all-time leading scorer on 123. Six Ukrainian championships and five cups came with that, along with two seasons as league top scorer, four Uzbek Footballer of the Year awards, and 34 goals in 61 caps that carried Uzbekistan to fourth place at the 2011 Asian Cup. Bunyodkor signed him in 2007, and in 2008, his first full season, he scored 19 league goals from midfield to finish as the Uzbek top scorer and Asia's Footballer of the Year. He won that award a second time in 2011, lifted nine Uzbek league titles and eight cups with Pakhtakor, Bunyodkor and Lokomotiv Tashkent, took the K League with FC Seoul in 2010, and left the national team on 128 caps and 25 goals.
