Eight goals in seven matches at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games, two against Saudi Arabia on 1 October and two against Malaysia two days later, made him both top scorer and best player of the tournament. Uzbekistan took the gold medal there, beating China 4-2 in the final; he scored 20 in 31 caps for his country and 121 for Pakhtakor, and won league titles in Malaysia in 1995, Uzbekistan in 1998 and India in 2000.
