In June 2023 his 36th goal for Uzbekistan moved him past Maksim Shatskikh, and two years on he was the captain who took the country to its first World Cup. He finished the 2025-26 Süper Lig as joint top scorer on 22 goals with Başakşehir, won the Europa Conference League with Roma in 2022, and holds the Uzbek scoring record with 45 in 95 caps. Eight goals in seven matches at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games, two against Saudi Arabia on 1 October and two against Malaysia two days later, made him both top scorer and best player of the tournament. Uzbekistan took the gold medal there, beating China 4-2 in the final; he scored 20 in 31 caps for his country and 121 for Pakhtakor, and won league titles in Malaysia in 1995, Uzbekistan in 1998 and India in 2000.
