Twice he beat South Korea's goalkeeper in the 2011 Asian Cup third place match on 28 January, a penalty on the stroke of half time and a second eight minutes after the break, and Uzbekistan still went down 3-2. Fourth place in Qatar remains the country's best Asian Cup; he finished on 98 caps and 31 goals, won league titles with Pakhtakor and the Kazakh championship with Aktobe in 2013, and was Uzbek Footballer of the Year in 2002. Eight goals in seven matches at the 1994 Hiroshima Asian Games, two against Saudi Arabia on 1 October and two against Malaysia two days later, made him both top scorer and best player of the tournament. Uzbekistan took the gold medal there, beating China 4-2 in the final; he scored 20 in 31 caps for his country and 121 for Pakhtakor, and won league titles in Malaysia in 1995, Uzbekistan in 1998 and India in 2000.
