Twice he beat South Korea's goalkeeper in the 2011 Asian Cup third place match on 28 January, a penalty on the stroke of half time and a second eight minutes after the break, and Uzbekistan still went down 3-2. Fourth place in Qatar remains the country's best Asian Cup; he finished on 98 caps and 31 goals, won league titles with Pakhtakor and the Kazakh championship with Aktobe in 2013, and was Uzbek Footballer of the Year in 2002. On 12 September 1995 he scored against Liverpool in the UEFA Cup for Alania Vladikavkaz, one of 210 goals across a career that took him from Soviet football to Samara and back to Tashkent. Gold at the 1994 Asian Games, where Uzbekistan beat China 4-2 in the Hiroshima final and he was named Asia's best midfielder, heads a record of 67 caps and 31 goals, later followed by three Uzbek titles as Bunyodkor's coach.
