Stoke were a goal down in the 2011 FA Cup final when Jones got the clearest sight of goal in the whole match at Wembley on 14 May, and Joe Hart pushed it away. He gave Trinidad and Tobago 91 caps and 23 goals, was part of the 2006 World Cup squad and took the Chaconia Medal, cost Stoke a club record £8 million, shared their scoring lead in 2010-11, and won the Championship on loan at Bournemouth. Easter Road called him the Little Magician, and in 1998-99 he made the name stick, running Hibernian out of the First Division as champions and taking the division's player of the year award. He had already won back-to-back Portuguese titles with Porto in 1995 and 1996, becoming the first Trinidadian in the Champions League, then a Portuguese Cup with Boavista, and he closed with 81 caps, 29 goals and a place at the 2006 World Cup.
