Trinidad and Tobago's first World Cup match ended goalless against Sweden in June 2006, and the 34-year-old captain, playing in front of his own back four, was named man of the match. The treble with Manchester United in 1999, 29 goals in all competitions that season and a share of the Premier League Golden Boot, the Intercontinental Cup, a League Cup with Aston Villa, an A-League title with Sydney FC, and 123 Premier League goals in total. Easter Road called him the Little Magician, and in 1998-99 he made the name stick, running Hibernian out of the First Division as champions and taking the division's player of the year award. He had already won back-to-back Portuguese titles with Porto in 1995 and 1996, becoming the first Trinidadian in the Champions League, then a Portuguese Cup with Boavista, and he closed with 81 caps, 29 goals and a place at the 2006 World Cup.
