On 17 April 2009 he became the first player in MLS history to reach both 100 goals and 100 assists, thirteen years after arriving in Washington from Middlesbrough, where he had been the first Bolivian to play in the Premier League. He retired as the league's all-time leading scorer on 131 goals, with four MLS Cups at D.C. United between 1996 and 2004, the 1997 Golden Boot, 75 Bolivia caps and the 1994 World Cup. Bolivia closed the 1963 South American Championship by beating Brazil 5-4 in La Paz on 31 March, and the tournament's best player award went to Blacut, who scored once in four appearances at inside forward. That title remains Bolivia's only continental championship; he also won the 1968 Bolivian league with Bolívar, collected 23 caps, and became the first South American signed by Bayern Munich, where injury limited him to friendlies.
