On 17 April 2009 he became the first player in MLS history to reach both 100 goals and 100 assists, thirteen years after arriving in Washington from Middlesbrough, where he had been the first Bolivian to play in the Premier League. He retired as the league's all-time leading scorer on 131 goals, with four MLS Cups at D.C. United between 1996 and 2004, the 1997 Golden Boot, 75 Bolivia caps and the 1994 World Cup. Moreno Martins finished the South American qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup as the continent's leading scorer with 10 goals, and Bolivia still finished outside the play-off places. He is Bolivia's record holder for both caps and goals, with 108 appearances and 31 goals, shared the 2008 Copa Libertadores scoring award with Salvador Cabañas, won the UEFA Cup with Shakhtar Donetsk in 2009 and the Ukrainian league in 2011, and took the Brazilian title with Cruzeiro in 2014.
