El Emperador scored in back-to-back matches at the 1997 Copa América on home soil, against Peru on 15 June and then the only goal against Uruguay three days later, and Bolivia came through the group without conceding. He finished that tournament as runner-up to Brazil, won three Bolivian championships with Bolívar in 1992, 1994 and 1996, played at the 1994 World Cup, and collected 85 caps for Bolivia between 1991 and 2005. Bolivia closed the 1963 South American Championship by beating Brazil 5-4 in La Paz on 31 March, and the tournament's best player award went to Blacut, who scored once in four appearances at inside forward. That title remains Bolivia's only continental championship; he also won the 1968 Bolivian league with Bolívar, collected 23 caps, and became the first South American signed by Bayern Munich, where injury limited him to friendlies.
