Basel, 19 June 1954: the right winger they called El Pardo scored twice in the 7-0 destruction of Scotland, then took a knock against England in the quarter-final and missed the semi against Hungary. He won eight Uruguayan championships across two spells at Peñarol, the 1966 Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup among them, and scored 14 goals in 26 games for Uruguay. Career record: 26 caps and 14 goals for Uruguay; club career at Club Atlético Peñarol, Genoa CFC, Calcio Lecco 1912.
