Fifty-one minutes into the 1995 Copa América final at the Centenario, the man they called El Profesor scored straight from a free kick to level against Brazil, then converted his penalty in the shoot-out Uruguay won 5-3. That was his second goal in a Copa América final after the 1987 one that beat Chile, and Peñarol got seven league titles out of him, five of them consecutive from 1993 to 1997, alongside 43 caps for Uruguay.
