Maneiro scored Uruguay's first goal of the 1970 World Cup against Israel in Puebla on 2 June, in a campaign that ended with fourth place in Mexico. With Nacional he won the 1971 Copa Libertadores and Intercontinental Cup, five Uruguayan titles between 1966 and 1972, added two more at Peñarol after a spell at Lyon, and won 33 caps across the 1970 and 1974 World Cups.
