Against Sweden in the 1950 final pool, Uruguay were behind until Míguez scored twice in the last fifteen minutes to turn it into a 3-2 win, one of five goals he took from four games at that tournament. Uruguay's 1950 title was his, along with the 1956 South American Championship and its best-player award; he remains their leading World Cup scorer on eight goals, with 218 in 295 games for Peñarol and six league titles.
