Riohacha gave Colombia El Guajiro, and at the 1987 Copa América he finished as top scorer with four goals, two of them against Paraguay on 5 July. His 25 goals in 68 caps stood as the national record until Falcao overtook it in 2015; he won Colombian titles with Millonarios in 1987 and 1988, scored 120 league goals for the club, and played at the 1990 World Cup.
