Millonarios brought him up from Tumaco at nineteen and he scored the winner against Internacional de Porto Alegre, the start of seventeen years of beating full backs on either foot. IFFHS voted him Colombia's best player of the twentieth century; he won the league with Millonarios in 1972 and 1978, four in a row with América de Cali from 1983, reached three straight Copa Libertadores finals, finished second at the 1975 Copa América and never played a World Cup.
