At the Berlin Olympics in August 1936 he scored in extra time as Peru came from two down to beat Austria 4-2, a result annulled days later and never replayed because his country walked out of the tournament. Champion, top scorer and best player of the 1939 South American Championship in Lima with seven goals in four matches, six Peruvian titles at Universitario, 24 goals in 32 caps, and the club's stadium carries his name. Career record: 32 caps and 24 goals for Peru; club career at Club Universitario de Deportes.
