Barcelona were four up at the Bernabéu on 17 February 1974 when he made it five, the afternoon Cruyff's side won 5-0 in Madrid and Catalonia found a scoreline it still quotes. Peru have won the Copa América twice and he settled the second of them in the 1975 Caracas playoff against Colombia, adding the 1973-74 Spanish championship at Barcelona and a World Cup quarter-final in 1970. The Argentine press named him the Black Diamond after his nights against River Plate, and on 23 August 1981 he scored two minutes into the second half at the Centenario to beat Uruguay 2-1 and push Peru towards Spain. Four Peruvian championships with Sporting Cristal, the Mexican title with Club América in 1987-88, the 1982 World Cup, 39 caps with nine goals, and third place in the 1981 South American player of the year vote behind Maradona and Zico. Career record: 39 caps and 9 goals for Peru; club career at Cagliari Calcio, Tecos, Deportivo Independiente Medellín.
