UNESCO honoured him in 1992 for more than 750 matches without a single red card, most of them in seventeen years at Raja Casablanca, where he was simply Maestro. He played every game of Morocco's 1976 Africa Cup of Nations win, the country's only continental title until 2025, and every minute of the 1986 World Cup, when Morocco finished above England and Portugal and became the first African side in the last 16; three Throne Cups came at Raja. In Addis Ababa in March 1976 he wore the armband as Morocco took the Africa Cup of Nations, finishing the tournament as its best player and second-highest scorer, and lifting a trophy his country would not win again until 2026. African Footballer of the Year in 1975, he spent his entire career at Chabab Mohammédia, winning the Moroccan league in 1980 and two Throne Cups, and he is still Morocco's record scorer with 36 goals. Career record: 115 caps and 42 goals for Morocco; club career at SCC Mohammédia.
