Extra time in the 1998 League Cup final at Wembley, and the goal that broke Middlesbrough came from Sinclair, a defender who made 218 appearances for Chelsea. He won the Cup Winners' Cup weeks later, added the 1997 FA Cup and a second League Cup with Leicester in 2000, and started all three of Jamaica's group games at France 98 among his 28 caps.

In November 2007 Gardner opened the scoring against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena, his first club goal in almost five years and a rare flourish in 14 seasons and 342 league games at Bolton.
