Celtic paid £650,000 for him in August 2010, and by the end of that season his fellow professionals had voted him PFA Scotland Players' Player of the Year, the first Honduran to win it. Seven Scottish league titles followed between 2011-12 and 2018-19, along with three Scottish Cups, two League Cups, and 111 caps for Honduras taking in the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. On 4 July 1965 he settled the Copa del Generalísimo final at the Bernabéu, a 65th-minute goal that beat Real Zaragoza 1-0 in front of 90,000 and gave Atlético Madrid their revenge for losing the same final a year earlier. That cup sat alongside the 1965-66 Spanish league title with Atlético, and before Madrid he had been the Segunda División's top scorer with 22 goals as Elche won promotion in 1958-59, going on to 24 top-flight goals for the club.
