Pavón finished the 2007 Gold Cup as its leading scorer with five goals, one ahead of Landon Donovan, and was named in the team of the tournament. He remains Honduras's record scorer with 57 goals in 101 caps, played at the 2010 World Cup, won UNCAF titles in 1993 and 1995, four Honduran championships with Real España and the Mexican Clausura with Morelia in 2000. On 4 July 1965 he settled the Copa del Generalísimo final at the Bernabéu, a 65th-minute goal that beat Real Zaragoza 1-0 in front of 90,000 and gave Atlético Madrid their revenge for losing the same final a year earlier. That cup sat alongside the 1965-66 Spanish league title with Atlético, and before Madrid he had been the Segunda División's top scorer with 22 goals as Elche won promotion in 1958-59, going on to 24 top-flight goals for the club.
