Ninety four league goals in 254 matches for Cagliari between 1999 and 2007 earned him the name Sardinia used, Pantera Nera, and 14 of those came in Serie A in his last season on the island. Inter took him to Milan for the 2007-08 Serie A title, and for Honduras he scored 17 goals in 57 caps and played at the 2010 World Cup, the country's first in 28 years. On 4 July 1965 he settled the Copa del Generalísimo final at the Bernabéu, a 65th-minute goal that beat Real Zaragoza 1-0 in front of 90,000 and gave Atlético Madrid their revenge for losing the same final a year earlier. That cup sat alongside the 1965-66 Spanish league title with Atlético, and before Madrid he had been the Segunda División's top scorer with 22 goals as Elche won promotion in 1958-59, going on to 24 top-flight goals for the club.
