Honduras reached the 2001 Copa América on a Colombian air force plane after the tournament had already kicked off, knocked the holders Brazil out 2-0 in Manizales, and he flew home with the best player award and third place. Three years later he was MLS MVP with the MetroStars, tied for the league's scoring lead on ten goals, and he captained Honduras at the 2010 World Cup before finishing with 138 caps and 27 goals. At the Britannia on 12 December 2009 he lined up a free kick around 35 yards out and put it over everybody on 72 minutes, an equaliser at Stoke that the BBC voted its goal of the season. He holds the Honduran appearance record with 181 caps between 2003 and 2022, played at the World Cups of 2010 and 2014, won four league titles with Olimpia, and was part of the Wigan side that took the FA Cup in 2013.
