Honduras reached the 2001 Copa América on a Colombian air force plane after the tournament had already kicked off, knocked the holders Brazil out 2-0 in Manizales, and he flew home with the best player award and third place. Three years later he was MLS MVP with the MetroStars, tied for the league's scoring lead on ten goals, and he captained Honduras at the 2010 World Cup before finishing with 138 caps and 27 goals.
