Forty thousand Celtic fans picked Baldé as the club's first Player of the Year in 2003, the season the 1.96m centre-back played 12 of their 13 UEFA Cup ties on the road to the final in Seville. He won five Scottish league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups at Parkhead, lost that final 3-2 to Porto, and took 52 caps to four Africa Cup of Nations with Guinea. Guinea were losing to Nigeria on 8 October 2011 when Traoré struck in the twelfth minute of stoppage time, and the 2-2 draw that followed carried them to the next year's Africa Cup of Nations. He scored 8 goals for Guinea and played three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, in 2012, 2015 and 2019, after a German career that ran from a Hertha debut in December 2007 through Augsburg and Stuttgart to seven seasons at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
