On 9 December 2012 he put three past Deportivo Táchira in the Clásico, still the only hat-trick anyone has scored in that fixture, and closed the Apertura as top scorer with 14 goals at the age of 20. He had already won the Venezuelan league and the Copa Venezuela with Caracas, went on to become the first Venezuelan to score in Ligue 1 with Nantes, and played 29 times for his country across the 2019 and 2021 Copa Américas.
