He won 119 caps for Uzbekistan between 2002 and 2015 and scored ten times, then stood on the touchline on 5 June 2025 as the head coach the night Uzbekistan finally qualified for a World Cup. As a player he won six consecutive Uzbek titles with Pakhtakor from 2002, three more with Bunyodkor, a Kazakh championship with Aktobe in 2013, and reached four Asian Cups, the best of them the fourth-place run in 2011.
