Two minutes into the 2019 final in Cairo, Bounedjah's shot clipped Salif Sané and dropped over Alfred Gomis, and Gassama spent the rest of that July night at right back chasing a game Senegal never levelled. CAF still put him in the Team of the Tournament for that run, the high point of 49 caps that also took in the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the quarter-finals in Gabon two years earlier.
