Wembley, 22 May 1963, and the Peruvian they called El Conejo lined up at right half for Milan beside Cesare Maldini and Giovanni Trapattoni, with Eusébio's Benfica beaten 2-1. Benítez won the European Cup that night, the Coppa Italia with Roma in 1969, the Argentine championship with Boca Juniors in 1962 and two Peruvian titles with Alianza Lima, and had already helped Peru beat England 4-1 in Lima in 1959.
