Lazio and Boca Juniors both came calling, and the man Lima's terraces named La Saeta Rubia sent them away with the line that his city was worth more to him than Paris, Rome or Buenos Aires. He won the 1949 Peruvian title alongside Lolo Fernández, topped the league's scoring charts in 1950 with 16, added the Copa del Pacífico in 1953 and 1954, and left Universitario on 111 goals from 184 games. Career record: 25 caps and 11 goals for Peru; club career at Club Universitario de Deportes, Club Sporting Cristal.
