The cap never left his head, so Ghana called him Yashin after the Russian who wore one too, and opposing forwards took to snatching it off him in the belief that it carried juju. He kept goal as Asante Kotoko won the 1970 African Cup of Champions Clubs against TP Englebert, finished runner-up at the 1968 Africa Cup of Nations and for the 1971 African Footballer of the Year, and has a Cape Coast stadium named after him.
