A physical education student at Jordanhill in Glasgow, he scored seven times in sixteen Rangers reserve games and got one Scottish League appearance for it, a 1-1 draw at Easter Road against Hibernian in September 1935. He had already played for Egypt at the 1934 World Cup, the first African side to reach one, and went to the Berlin Olympics in 1936; with Zamalek he won six Egypt Cups and eight Cairo League titles.
