On 23 March 1997 Solís scored in a 3-2 World Cup qualifying win over the United States in San José, and later that year a move to Derby County put him in the same English dressing room as Paulo Wanchope. He finished with 110 caps, the second Costa Rican past a hundred, World Cups in 2002 and 2006, Copa América in 1997 and 2001, and four league championships at home.
