Just after half-time at the MCG on 29 November 1997 he stabbed in a rebound for 2-0 against Iran, and Australia were going to France until two Iranian goals in five minutes took it back. Oceania Footballer of the Year in 1994, top scorer in the Belgian first division with 22 goals for Standard Liège in 1994-95, an OFC Nations Cup winner in 2000 and a Confederations Cup finalist in 1997, he captained the Socceroos for six years.
