On 19 August 1978 he came off the bench at Highbury against Leeds United, the first Australian to play a league game for Arsenal, and later scored 89 goals in 150 matches for Sydney City. He won 60 caps and scored 25 goals for Australia, captained the side, took back-to-back NSL titles with Sydney City in 1981 and 1982, led the league's scoring charts in 1982 and entered Australian football's hall of fame in 1999.
