A centre-back who kept arriving in the wrong box, he scored both goals against Jordan in the WAFF Championship final in Doha in January 2014, at 52 and 81 minutes, and ended the tournament as top scorer with six. He won the Asian Cup twice, in 2019 and 2023, added the 2014 Arabian Gulf Cup, made the 2019 Team of the Tournament, and stands past 130 caps and 21 goals for Qatar with league titles at Al Sadd. Al Sadd's terraces called him Khalfaninho, and in November 2006, aged eighteen, he became the first Qatari named AFC Player of the Year, months before a knee injury against Bahrain took a year out of him. Ibrahim won gold at the 2006 Asian Games, lifted the 2011 AFC Champions League with Al Sadd, and left the club as its record league scorer with 78 goals in 298 appearances.
