Against South Korea at France 98 he clamped the ball between both feet and hopped clean through two defenders, and Mexicans have called that move the Cuauhtemiña ever since. He won the 1999 Confederations Cup and still shares that competition's all time scoring record with nine goals, took the Gold Cup in 1996 and 1998, scored at three World Cups as the first Mexican to do so, and finished with 38 goals in 120 caps.
