Guinea were losing to Nigeria on 8 October 2011 when Traoré struck in the twelfth minute of stoppage time, and the 2-2 draw that followed carried them to the next year's Africa Cup of Nations. He scored 8 goals for Guinea and played three Africa Cup of Nations tournaments, in 2012, 2015 and 2019, after a German career that ran from a Hertha debut in December 2007 through Augsburg and Stuttgart to seven seasons at Borussia Mönchengladbach.
