Before the squad flew to West Germany in 1974, Pinochet came down the line at the send-off and Caszely kept his hand behind his back, one of the first public refusals the dictator faced. He was top scorer of the 1973 Copa Libertadores as Colo-Colo reached their first final, won five Chilean league titles and three domestic cups, and at that World Cup became the first player shown a red card in the tournament's history. Career record: 49 caps and 29 goals for Chile; club career at Club Social y Deportivo Colo Colo, Levante UD, RCD Espanyol de Barcelona.

His free kick from the left in the 1962 quarter-final at Arica lifted over the wall and dropped past Lev Yashin, and the Soviet Union were out of the World Cup. Four goals made him a joint top scorer of that tournament, the only Chilean to top a World Cup scoring list, and he finished third on home soil, won six Chilean titles with the Ballet Azul at Universidad de Chile and held the caps record for decades.
