When Conmebol picked its team of the 2024 Copa América, Johnston was the only player on the list who did not come from South America, chosen after Canada beat Venezuela on penalties and went out to Argentina in the semi-final. At Celtic he won a domestic treble within six months of arriving in January 2023 and now has four Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.
