When Conmebol picked its team of the 2024 Copa América, Johnston was the only player on the list who did not come from South America, chosen after Canada beat Venezuela on penalties and went out to Argentina in the semi-final. At Celtic he won a domestic treble within six months of arriving in January 2023 and now has four Scottish Premiership titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups. The 2001 MLS Cup went to golden goal, and in the 96th minute he shifted the ball onto his right foot and curled it off the far post and in, winning San Jose the title and the match's MVP award.
