La Paz took Argentina apart 6-1 on 1 April 2009 and three of the goals were his, seven years after a season of 49 league goals that IFFHS rated the best in any top division in the world. He left Bolívar with 133 goals, second in the club's history, and added the 2002 Bolivian title, back-to-back Mexican championships with UNAM in the 2004 Clausura and Apertura, and 20 goals in 48 caps for Bolivia. United in 1996, 1997 and 1999, was named league MVP in 1998, added the CONCACAF Champions' Cup and Copa Interamericana in 1998, and reached the 1997 Copa América final with Bolivia, scoring 13 goals in 71 caps.
